How late is too late?
ellaOne can be effective up to 5 days (120 hours) after unprotected sex, but effectiveness is highest in the first 24 hours, please don’t wait if you can avoid it. If you’re outside the window, talk to us anyway about your options.
Will anyone know?
No. The consultation is private, our team is discreet, and nothing about the interaction is visible to anyone else in the shop.
Does it affect future fertility?
No, emergency contraception does not affect your ability to become pregnant in the future.
What if I’m on other medication?
Tell the pharmacist during the consultation, some medicines can interact, and we’ll make sure you get the right option.

If you have been sexually assaulted

A Sexual Assault Treatment Unit (SATU) offers free, confidential care, including emergency contraception up to 5 days after an assault and medicines to prevent infection. You do not have to report to the Gardaí before you go. The units are on call 24 hours a day, every day. Phone the unit before you arrive; numbers for all 6 units, including Mullingar and Dublin (Rotunda), are on the HSE SATU page. In an emergency, call 999 or 112.
