What is Mounjaro (Tirzepatide)?

Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, a dual GLP-1 / GIP receptor agonist, the first of its kind. Unlike semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy) which targets only GLP-1 receptors, tirzepatide activates two incretin pathways simultaneously, producing greater appetite suppression and weight loss. Clinical trials (SURMOUNT) showed average weight loss of 20–22.5% of body weight, significantly higher than other GLP-1 medications.

Mounjaro Strengths in Ireland, 2.5mg to 15mg

One of the most common questions we get on WhatsApp is “what other strengths of Mounjaro do you have?” Mounjaro (tirzepatide) comes in six KwikPen strengths, and Laois Pharmacy can dispense every one of them on a valid prescription, in store in Portlaoise or by cold-chain delivery anywhere in Ireland.

Mounjaro 2.5mgStarting dose for the first 4 weeks, lets your body adjust€238

Mounjaro 15mgMaximum licensed doseAsk on WhatsApp

How Mounjaro dosing works: treatment starts at 2.5mg once a week for four weeks, then moves to 5mg. If more effect is needed, your prescriber can increase the dose in 2.5mg steps, never sooner than four weeks apart, up to a maximum of 15mg weekly. Not everyone needs to go higher: plenty of people get excellent results and stay on 5mg. Dose changes are always your prescriber’s decision, and our pharmacist will check each new strength against your prescription before dispensing. Managing Mounjaro side effects: what actually helps

The most common Mounjaro side effects, from constipation and nausea to reflux and hair thinning, are all manageable. Here is what helps for each, and the products we keep in stock in Portlaoise.

🚽 Constipation

Slower digestion is one of the most common things people notice, and it can leave you bunged up and uncomfortable. Drinking more water through the day helps a lot, and a gentle fibre like Fybogel keeps things moving without being harsh. Fybocalm is handy when bloating and cramping are the bigger problem.

🔥 Reflux and heartburn

These treatments slow how quickly your stomach empties, which can bring on heartburn or acid reflux for some people. An antacid that contains an alginate, like Gaviscon, forms a protective raft on top of your stomach contents to ease the burning. If reflux is frequent, or it lasts more than a week or two, see your GP, because you may need a different treatment.

💪 Protecting muscle while you lose weight

When weight comes off quickly, some of it can be muscle rather than fat, and keeping your muscle is what keeps your metabolism, strength and energy up, and helps you keep the weight off afterwards. Two things make the biggest difference: eating enough protein and doing some resistance exercise.

Protein: aim for roughly 1.2–1.6g of protein per kilogram of body weight per day, spread across meals, for most adults that is about 25–35g at each meal. Because Mounjaro reduces appetite, make protein the first thing on your plate: eggs, fish, chicken, Greek yoghurt, beans, lentils, or a whey protein shake on days you struggle to eat enough.

Resistance exercise: two or three short sessions a week using body-weight moves, resistance bands or light weights is enough to tell your body to hold on to muscle. Walking is great for general health, but on its own it does not protect muscle the way resistance work does.

Our pharmacists can talk through protein targets and suitable supplements with you, just ask in store or on WhatsApp. For meal ideas see our guide on what to eat on Mounjaro and Ozempic.

💧 Staying hydrated

Eating and drinking less makes it easy to get dehydrated, which shows up as headaches, tiredness and dizziness. An electrolyte drink puts back the salts your body needs, not just plain water. High 5 Zero is a simple tablet you drop into a glass.

🥗 Filling nutrient gaps

When your appetite drops right off, you eat less of everything, including the vitamins and minerals your body still needs every day. A good daily multivitamin quietly covers those gaps. If you are eating very little, or cutting back on meat, it is easy to run low on vitamin B12, which contributes to normal energy metabolism and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Topping it up helps most if your level has actually dropped low.

👩 Hair thinning

Rapid weight loss can push more hairs than usual into the shedding phase, so a few months in you might notice extra hair in the brush. It is usually temporary, and a hair supplement with the right nutrients can support normal, healthy growth while your body settles.

🌙 Cramps, sleep and regularity

Magnesium is one of the quiet heroes here. It supports normal muscle function so it can ease cramps, it helps with sleep, and it gives sluggish digestion a gentle nudge, all common issues on these treatments. If you are not sure which type suits you, our full guide walks you through it.

☀️ Bones and energy with vitamin D

Fast weight loss can take a toll on your bones, and most of us in Ireland run low on vitamin D anyway, especially through the winter. A daily vitamin D supports normal bones, muscles and immune function. Our guide explains exactly how much you need by age.

Read our vitamin D guide

A note on prescription options: The tips above are for mild, everyday side effects. If any of them are more troublesome, your doctor can prescribe medication that helps, for example anti-sickness tablets for persistent nausea, a stronger stomach acid medicine such as a PPI for ongoing reflux, or a prescription treatment for stubborn constipation. If a side effect is severe, will not settle, or you feel genuinely unwell, speak to your GP, and always tell the doctor or clinic who started your treatment.
