Cocoa Brown, the Irish self-tan favourite, in Original, Dark and Extra Dark. Quick-developing mousse that gives Irish skin a natural glow without the sun. Our team’s tips for an even, streak-free finish are below.

How to get a streak-free tan

  1. Exfoliate the day before, concentrating on knees, elbows, ankles and hands. Shave or wax at least 24 hours ahead.
  2. Moisturise dry spots only (knees, elbows, ankles, wrists) just before applying, so they do not grab extra colour.
  3. Use a mitt and apply in long sweeps, body first, then face with whatever is left on the mitt, then wipe palms.
  4. Develop for the time on the bottle: one hour for a light glow, longer for deeper colour, then rinse in lukewarm water with no soap.
  5. Moisturise daily afterwards and avoid long hot baths; the tan fades evenly over five to seven days.

Which shade?

Original for fair skin or a first-time user, Dark for an olive or holiday look, Extra Dark if you tan easily and want depth. When in doubt go lighter; you can always apply a second layer.

Pharmacist tip: self-tan does not protect from the sun. You still need SPF outdoors.

Common questions about self tan

How long does Cocoa Brown 1 Hour Tan last?

About five to seven days, fading gradually. Daily moisturising and avoiding harsh exfoliation make it last longer.

Will fake tan protect me from sunburn?

No. The colour comes from a reaction with the top layer of skin and gives no UV protection. Wear SPF as normal.

Why did my tan go patchy?

Usually dry skin grabbing colour unevenly, or rinsing too soon. Exfoliate the day before, moisturise only the dry spots, and leave the mousse to develop for the full time.
